Introduction to Handgun – Foundational Pistol Skills Course

The Introduction to Handgun Course is designed for new shooters, returning shooters, or anyone who wants a solid, confidence‑building foundation in safe handgun handling. This class focuses on essential skills, safety principles, and practical understanding of how handguns operate. No prior experience is required — this is the ideal starting point for responsible firearm ownership.

This course emphasizes safety, competence, and confidence, preparing students for future defensive or concealed carry training.

Course Objectives

Students will learn to:

  • Understand Firearm Safety Fundamentals The four universal safety rules, safe handling habits, and range etiquette.

  • Identify Handgun Types & Components Differences between semi‑automatic pistols and revolvers, how they function, and key terminology.

  • Operate a Handgun Safely Loading, unloading, chamber checks, and safe administrative handling.

  • Build Foundational Marksmanship Skills Grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, and recoil management.

  • Perform Basic Malfunction Clearing Simple, step‑by‑step methods for resolving common issues.

  • Select Appropriate Equipment Overview of holsters, ammunition types, cleaning tools, and safe storage options.
